im so fucking serious when i say that no one is crueler to visibly disabled people than girlies with blue wolfcuts and sharp eyeliner wearing hundred dollar sweaters from shein.

like. there's a weird misconception that it's old people, but i have never once had an issue with anyone over the age of, like, 55. they are fine with me muttering to myself or making weird faces or not hearing them the first five times they call my name. that's not a problem for them. when my brother goes out with a cane, they're the ones who compliment it, and tell him the spikes and ribbons are a cute addition.

yesterday this pink haired girl in the bathroom told me that i needed to stay away from movie theaters if i was going to act like a schizo. ten minutes later an 80 year old woman complimented me on my bright red hearing aids and said she wished she had that confidence when she got hers.

cuuno

anyways to the anon who just said that maybe i shouldn't be in public spaces. thank you for proving my point

lovequeengoodomens asked:

Hello Neil, have you seen the news about an amateur submarine that sank in the Atlantic Ocean and now there are people there without much hope of salvation. Do you think they will be saved? I feel sorry for these people, I hope everything will be fine

neil-gaiman answered:

I have indeed seen that news. Did you know that last week a ship with about 750 migrants on it sank off the coast of Greece? 82 bodies were recovered, about a hundred people were saved, another 500 people are unaccounted for and probably drowned. The vessel may have capsized due to the Greek Coast Guard trying to tow it. Most of the people on the ship were from Pakistan, trying to get to Italy.

It's always "eat the rich" until a billionaire and multiple millionaires get lost and likely die a horrible death because they paid $250k each to go pollute an underwater mass grave in a poorly made vessel that they all agreed to get bolted inside of and then its "have empathy because that's a horrible way to die"

250k could change entire communities lives. Even a fifth of that could fix mine and my partner's and maybe our neighbor's life for years. If I can't eat the rich myself, the sea doing it for me isn't anything I'm mourning. I don't have empathy for these people because you only get that rich by exploiting the lives of marginalized people. I can't empathize with ever having that much money ever in my life. Not even 250k.

percypanleo

Honestly the only one I have some empathy for is the 15 year old, and it's mainly just because it feels extremely surreal and terrifying thinking that a teen could have that kind of fate. In the slim chance that they survive that kid is gonna need some serious therapy

dabwax

He was 19 and heir to one of the wealthiest families in Pakistan. Why do people keep making this guy younger and younger? He wasn't a little kid dragged along against his will and I, again, have trouble feeling empathy for any of these people who were capable of paying 250k to do this while hundreds of migrants were left to drown, small children included, this week off of the coast of Greece.

My empathy is strung out on caring for people in poverty and absolutely cannot be extended to rich heirs to a multimillion dollar company. I live in Albuquerque, a city riddled with homeless in the streets that get mowed down by cars for a game called "bum bowling", I hear people in stores every day talk about how the world would be better off without the homeless and that's who I care about with every atom in my body. The addicts and the bums and the schizophrenics and the migrants and the autistics and the psychopaths who nobody fucking blinks an eye for when they die or are suffering loudly without compassion. And plenty of them are 19 or younger. 250k would change dozens of their lives all at once.

ALSO one time him and I went for a walk and I found a dead mole on the ground and I took it back home because I wanted to skin it. He thought it was disgusting, but when his mom came to pick him up she thought it was the coolest thing ever. I have no idea how a milf like her raised a son like that

I am absolutely fascinated by every single addition to this story

its really wild how many movies and tv shows are just like, obscenely skinny. how many casts are representative of the average population, if you sampled a crowd in a normal store or on a train? how many actually “average” bodies do you see on screen? how often are the stomachs shown flat or concave, how often are the thighs all muscle no fat, how often are the jawlines and cheekbones perfect and not covered by even a hint of softness? its bizarre and offputting whenever you start looking at media with that in mind

My favourite things about the whole OceanGate disaster, in no particular order

  • That the vessel was originally named Cyclops II but the CEO renamed it to Titan, so it’s even BETTER than the Titanic
  • He also called it indestructible
  • The guy piloting the vessel is an ex-naval captain who has been on several titanic manned trips. But the guy is 77 rn
  • The billionaire from Pakistan is apparently friends with King Charles. You’d think for someone who’s besties with a guy whose job was literally being born, he’d care more about protecting his bloodline. Instead, he brought his 19 year old with him
  • Meanwhile, the stepson of one of the other billionaires (I think the British one named Hamish) went to a Blink 182 concert. When questioned about this, he basically went “my family would want me to go to the concert”. Today, minutes after posting about asking for thoughts and prayers, he @‘ed an OF model on Twitter, asking her to sit on his face
  • Bc it’s part of the safety demo & music track list for the trip, there is a VERY good chance that if there’s still some power left in the sub, it’s playing an instrumental of My Heart Will Go On on loop
  • Also, the vessel is a submersible bc it doesn’t meet literally any of the safety regulations to be called a submarine. Which the CEO knew, because he’s blatantly said that safety regulations get in the way of progress
  • The CEO once stated that he thought the future of humanity was not in space, but in the ocean when the surface becomes uninhabitable
  • Apparently the controller he’s using has REAL bad reviews because the connection always fails
  • These idiots paid $250k EACH but they had to pack their own lunch. Not even a damn charcuterie board
  • The pilot’s seat is on the toilet. So whenever someone needs to go, the pilot needs to move
  • There’s 1 window looking out. That’s it
  • It’s about the size of a minivan
  • The sub uses texts (but only to the CEO’s phone) to communicate, as well as StarLink, but they can only access that if they surface
  • The door literally cannot be opened from inside
  • There is a decent chance that at least 1 person has been cannibalized (my bet was the pilot since he’s not rich, but bc of the banging sounds, he’s probs not dead, so it may be the CEO)
  • They’re supposed to run out of oxygen tomorrow (22/06/23) at 7 am est, but tbh, the CO2 scrubber system will probs fail before that
  • The toilet is a plastic bag
  • This is only the 3rd time in 3 years the vessel has gone to the Titanic. Every other time, there’s an issue and they gotta turn back within like 4 hours
  • A lot of major news networks are trying to remain positive, but it’s a HILARIOUS comparison when you go to social media and every single person is like “yeah that shit is built like a cardboard boat, they’re fucked”
  • The company’s name is literally called OceanGate
